Bazi vs. Zi Wei Dou Shu (八字與紫微斗數)
Compare the Four Pillars stem-branch framework with Zi Wei Dou Shu palaces and stars, including inputs, chart structure, timing, and non-interchangeable rules.
Overview
Bazi and Zi Wei Dou Shu are distinct Chinese destiny-analysis systems that can start from similar birth data but build different charts. Bazi centers on four stem-branch pillars, the Day Master, season, Ten Gods, and interactions. Zi Wei Dou Shu arranges palaces and star systems through its own calendrical and school-specific rules. Terms, calculations, and conclusions must not be silently transferred between them.
At a glance
- Bazi core
- Four stem-branch pillars and Day Master relations
- Zi Wei core
- Palaces, principal stars, auxiliary stars, and transformations
- Shared input
- Birth date and time, with method-specific calendar handling
- Timing
- Each system uses its own cycle and activation rules
- Cross-use rule
- Do not import a term without naming its source system
- Boundary
- Agreement is not independent scientific validation
The chart architectures are different
Bazi preserves four pillars and derives Ten Gods and interactions relative to the Day Master and seasonal command.
Zi Wei Dou Shu constructs a multi-palace chart populated by star systems and transformations. A palace name in one system does not equal a pillar position in the other.
- Use each system’s own data model.
- Do not rename one system’s fields as the other’s.
Similar inputs do not imply identical calculations
Both may use birth date and time, but lunar conversion, hour handling, leap-month rules, boundaries, and school conventions can affect their outputs differently.
Each result should retain its own calculation settings and engine version. One chart must not silently supply missing fields to the other.
- Version calculation rules independently.
- Propagate birth-time uncertainty to both systems.
Compare conclusions only after independent readings
A combined report should first complete each system’s reasoning within its own rules, then compare clearly labeled themes.
Repeated themes may be useful for reflection, while disagreement should remain visible. Do not force convergence to create confidence.
- Keep provenance on every claim.
- Treat disagreement as information.
Two symbolic systems are not two independent experiments
Both draw from related cultural traditions and the same birth data, so agreement does not establish objective prediction accuracy.
Neither system should replace medical, legal, financial, psychological, or relationship evidence.
- Avoid false cross-validation.
- Keep high-stakes decisions evidence-based.

Combined birth-chart reading
This comparison starts with the Bazi–Ziwei distinction on this page and adds Western astrology when selected. The product reads two or three systems separately and compares life themes. Agreement, partial agreement, disagreement and non-comparable material should remain distinct.
Read each system separately before comparing themes. Similar wording can arise from related editorial choices, and disagreement can reflect different questions or rules. Three systems are not three independent votes, and their scores should not become a probability.
A traditional source explains where a rule comes from. A calculation check tests the stated case. A generated report shows the writing for its recorded input, language and date. None of these alone proves future outcomes, independent expert endorsement or reader satisfaction. Check the sample page for its origin, completeness and any unavailable parts.
